Voorwoord
jaarverslag 2011
Stichting BEBO staat voor Brood en Beroepsopleiding.
Wij bakken geen brood maar ondernemers. Middels
Evenals in
ondernemers. Er zijn inmiddels 115
investeringskredieten verstrekt aan even zoveel startende ondernemers. 36
in Ghana. Totaal €126.000.
projecten. Totale reserve is € 46.000 (consolidated balance)
In 2009

Summary
1
Soja schoolmilk
project
After a successful pilotproject in
2009 it was agreed that the soyamilk project could be implemented on a larger scale.
Two things should
be ironed out, however.
1 Bebobakery
would not have the capacity to handle a nationwide multi-million project and
2 The Government of
To tackle both issues at once, it was decided to focus on private
schools at first.
Demonstrations have been organised at Methodist and Seventh Day
Adventists schools.
More than 200 schools are interested in the soya based menus and ready to
cooperate.
Moreover, the production of soybeans has tripled over the last decade;
currently over 70 thousand tons. Prompt
and cash payment to farmers is the best incentive for further increase of production.
The need for farm loans is considerably less than we anticipated.
Milling machine design
Lucy and Theophilus contact Universities and
industrial companies for development of a stainless steel milling machine that
does the following tasks:
·
coarse crushing to
break the skin and fine milling to set the milk free
·
tumbling to pour out
the milk and to discharge the tofu
(okra)
·
it should stand more than 100 centrigrades and hold more than 500 litres.
Institutional Development
Area Managers, Lucy in
Loans and repayments
The number of loans are steadily increasing and
repayments are further improving.
We expect to conclude Operation Solomon this year.
It much depends on developments
in Ampenyi.
The children of Isaac Enkoom, who passed away in
December, decided to honour the repayment of their father’s outstanding loan.
We expect this to have an impact on the morale of the other loan takers in Ampenyi.
Cooperation with a divided Ampenyi
Community.
Bebobakery is still trying to bring the various stake holders in Ampenyi together and to cope with some obstruction. The
newly elected assembly man and the members of the Unit Committee have given
their word to work in harmony with Bebobakery in the
interest of the whole community
2
Main purpose of this mission was to complete the project proposal list
for 2011
and collect
original loan applications.
Currently we have the following list of applications:
30 micro loan applications €15,000
30 small investment applications € 55,000
4 medium size investment loans €84,000
3 applications for grants € 39,000
Total funding requirement € 193,000
Bebobakery may raise up to €100.000 from private donors,
which will be doubled by CORDAID.
At present Bebobakery has collected
€ 25,000 and hopes to raise another €
The micro loans are small short term loans. It is relatively
expensive money, but nonetheless in high demand. Repayment is 99%. This window
is handled by Lucy Attoms.
The small investment
loans are about € 2000 for a period of 2-3 years. This window is
handled by all three Area Managers. Repayment is about 80%.
Medium size investments imply expansion and innovation. In this particular case expansion
of a bakery, introduction of
new products: granola, soya milk, soya bread, rolls and honey.
Theophilus Mintah of Florence Bakery
and Peter Frempah, general manager of Seventh Day
Adventist schools, have decided to cooperate and to promote soy food
nationwide.
Conrad Kaaiwula has
submitted a business plan for the production of honey.
Honey is in great demand locally and for export.
Honey is also an essential ingredient in the
production of granola.
Grants that fall in
the category of Social & Cultural Activities
Bebobakery is focussed on economic development by stimulating Small and Medium size
Enterprises. However, we respond to local needs and the wishes of donors. Bebobakery has become part and parcel of the Ampenyi Community and we share their beautiful beaches and
their problems.
3
Purpose of the
mission
Inauguration of CORDAID sponsored project 105804:
loans for starting entrepreneurs
The project may last 5 consecutive years, starting from 14-7-2011,
CORDAID doubles private sector contributions up
to a maximum of € 100,000 per year
Hence a maximum budget of € 1,000,000 plus repayments for the next 5
years
The first year
contract includes:
·
50 micro/meso loans through Area Managers in
·
Investment loans for
soymilk and granola production in
·
Investment loan for eco tourism
in Ampenyi.
·
Vocational training
at CapeDeaf and Monzano
·
Social Cultural
Activities in Ampenyi.
·
Training and
development of 3 BEBO ngo’s and Area Managers.
What did we do this
time?
15 new loans, partly by relending of repayments
(revolving fund),
partly by lending of new project capital. € 20,000
Purchase of 2 soy steamers to be delivered in Nov. € 15,000
5-year development plan for vocational training € 43,500
Total commitment
€ 78,500
Financial
independence in 5 years time. Quite a challenge!!!!
The 3 area managers should be capable to manage the
newly established foundations independently and without further support from Bebobakery within 5 years.
Quite a challenge, but in view of progress made so
far, it can be done.
The 3 Area Managers are totally different people, and
operate differently, but they share self confidence, reliability and
determination to succeed.
4
Purpose of the
mission
Follow-up on loans for starting entrepreneurs.
Last preparations before installation of first 3 soy
steamers.
Implementation of 5 year cooperative programme with
Continuation of Social Cultual
Activities in Ampenyi.
Loans for starting
entrepreneurs
This year Bebobakery issued
27 new loans with a total value of € 66.000.
Repayment ratio of the new loans is for more than 80% according to
schedule.
The biggest loan this time went to Florence Bakery for
production of local muesli,
granola Africana. The bakery will move from a rented place in Dansoman to a purchased place in Kasoa.
EbenOaks’ repayment is gradually improving: currently about € 100 per month.
Repayment of fishmeal loan of Gordon Sampson in Atabaze is slowing down: we consider financial management
by the Area Manager if the situation does not improve.
Soya Milk
Agreements on installation of the first three soy
steamers have been made with COENCO, the producer of the machines in Belgium
and with the users of the machines in Ghana: Mrs Adjoa
Boisson in Cape Coast, the lady who carried out the
pilot project in 2009 and the two heads of schools in Kumasi and their General
Manager Peter Frempah in Accra.
COENCO will deliver and install the machines in
Feb-March and Bebobakery provides loans upto € 12.000 per production unit.
Loans will be repaid within three years.
Capedeaf
240 bikes and some tools and equipment have been
shipped from
With assistance of CRAN all items have reached their
final destination and most of the transportation cost has been recovered.
CapeDeaf and Samuel Mensah have received the first
consignment of 40 bikes and some tools. More tools, equipment and spareparts are planned to be bought locally as part of the
five year cooperative programme. Samuel Mensah
participates in the technical training of the students.
Ampenyi
Bebobakery built a Guesthouse and
All machinery and equipment of the former vocational
institute have been removed, except for a 10 kva
generator. In spite of the disappointing results in Ampenyi
and continuous obstruction by a minority group, Bebobakery
will continue its SCA programme in Ampenyi, in
particular the support
to the PS- JSS school and Headmaster Mr Brakoh.
